Size Reduction of Salts
Salts
are indispensable for the human being. The most
important and best known is table salt (Sodium
Chloride); it was called the " White Gold" in the
middle ages and was always an important commodity.
Salt is attained by means of
desalination and from salt domes or brines.
Additional salts which can be divided according to their
acid residues are size reduced, i.e. halogen salts.
Sodium Chloride belongs to these types of salts as well.
Furthermore, there are salts from inorganic acids such
as sodium bicarbonate, known as baking soda, that is
contained in cleaning and heavy duty detergents.
Additional substances that
are size reduced are chlorates, phosphates, sulfates,
sulfides, nitrates, nitrites, etc. Depending on
the requirement, these chemical products must be size
reduced to most different finesses. The possibly lumped
material is precut with the
Cam Breaker type
PBD in order to achieve a flowable starting product
that can be easily mixed and dosed for the downstream
processing step. Often, the final size
reduction is performed by means of screenless
Turbo Mills or
Beater Mills.
