Gelatin is used in foodstuff, mainly for
thickening and stabilizing of i.e. yogurts, baked goods, milk products and
desserts. Gelatin is also used in the photo- and film industry as carrier
material for pigments and many chemicals.
The basis for the production of gelatin are
pork-rinds or cowhides with different extraction processes (acidic,
alkaline). For this type of processing, the pork-rinds and cowhides are
precut in order to achieve good metering and an increase in surface area.
Another reason for precutting is that, in the downstream process, the fluids
can better penetrate into the layers thereby increasing the speed of the
extraction process.
PALLMANN
Knife Mills, type PS 6-9,
especially developed for this application, perform precutting.

The dried gelatin is further size reduced to the
desired particle size by means of the
Universal Mills, type PX 315 or PX 630.

PALLMANN offers complete systems, from precutting
to dry grinding, with exhaust filtration of pneumatic conveying, to include
screening of particle sizes from the dry grinding process.
