Recycling of
Foam Waste
With foam material one
differentiates between expanded polystyrene (EPS) and
foamed polyethylene (PE). PE is the preferred material
for the manufacturing of film or pipe insulation. EPS
is commonly used as insulation for houses or as
packaging material.
Production waste created
during start-up and shutdown of the production line is a
valuable raw material when correctly prepared.
The
knife mills developed by
PALLMANN through practical application, offer decisive
advantages with their high throughput rate and economic
performance during the recycling process. Defined
granules sizes according to the chosen screen hole size,
load controlled material feeding, easy exchange of
screen and knives as well as knife adjustment outside of
the machine characterize the preferred knife mill
technology.
Special knife mills such as
the Foam Chipper, Type PHK
and the
Ultra Granulator, Type PS
Series P with
horizontal conveyor belts as wells as load-controlled
draw-in rollers offer an operator friendly feeding and
trouble free workflow.
Manufacturers
all over the world use PALLMANN The
Plast Agglomerator, Type
PFV to
produce agglomerates from PE waste material, which can
be reintroduced into foam production. The agglomerate
from EPS-waste is commonly used in injection molding.
Continuous processing, high
throughput rate, gentle agglomeration at low
temperature, fully automatic continuous operation with a
minimum of personnel as well as space saving design are
the special characteristics of the PALLMANN
Plast-Agglomerator Systems.

Recycling
of Insulation Foam Waste
Insulating materials from
extruded Polystyrol-HR-foam (XPS) are used in many
applications i.e. roofing, flooring, exterior/interior
wall insulation and many other areas. The production of
extruded HR foam sheets is therefore continuously
expanding worldwide. During production and further
processing, waste is created in form of rejects or
milling chips.
PALLMANN
recycling technology offers the decisive advantage of
being able to produce free-flowing agglomerates with
high bulk density that can be immediately re-entered
into the production cycle.
With high throughput rate
and economic performance, a granulator such as the
PHK Plastic Chipper, first of all
produces a granule of defined size that can be further
processed in the Plast-Agglomerator. The sturdy and
durable design of the granulator is made for extreme,
continuous operation. Load controlled material feeding
via conveyor belt and draw-in rollers guarantees
comfortable horizontal feeding.
The
Plast-Agglomerator produces agglomerate from the
granule, by means of gentle agglomeration with
frictional heat, without any major thermal stress.
Due
to the low heat generation, cooling of the agglomerate
by water immersion is not necessary, therefore
avoiding contamination of the cooling water by flame
retarding agents and eliminating the high cost of water
purification.
Sheet waste and milling
chips can be processed in one step. Start-up under cold
condition without prior cleaning of the agglomerating
chamber is possible at any time.

Recycling
of PLA Foam (Polylactic Acid)
During the production and
processing of PLA foam and film, waste is generated.
Valuable virgin material can be saved by recycling the
waste. Recycled production waste can be reintroduced
into the process for the production of new material.
Recycling of PLA
with the Plast Agglomerator, Type PFV
Using a special process, the
PLA waste is transformed into high quality, free flowing
granules by means of
The Plast-Agglomeration System.
Through frictional heat only and mechanical pressure the
material is evenly sintered, within fractions of a
second. The PLA production waste is agglomerated
right below the melting point with minimum thermal
degradation of the product. The recycled
high-quality material is suitable to be reintroduced
into production.
